So much to talk about and so little time to do it in. First I’ve finally jumped on the Twitter band wagon thanks to Proclaim telling me to get my act together. Great application, just always down all the time due to server overload. I’m curious how frantic those guys over there are when trying to always upgrade their system.

At the nine to five have worked on so many client projects, everything from the Paris Air Show, applications for Tibco Spotfire, marketing for Dunkin Donuts, and a micro site for Sika Sarnafil. Need a vacation to recover from three intense weeks. Plus working on 4 internal side projects for The Boston Group. Can’t wait to show these four projects off encompassing stuff like motion graphics, software development, portal creation, and urban interactive.

Personally, too much to describe. Working on probably one of the best sites to date that I’ve developed that is totally flash based and encompassing a multitude of social media network feeds, the flar toolkit, and video publishing. Also working on two medical field websites, one food franchise that’s exploding in numerous chains, and a couple of portal sites all with big names. Three of the projects run on Wordpress and I’m excited about figuring out how to configure this application. Also learning about integrating data with SWX, the Flar toolkit, playing with the Gaia framework, writing expressions within After Effects and creating my own plug ins, creating my own CRM with some pretty cool math that does some predicting, and learning about sound spectrum in order to create a live VJ system.

So much to do, so little time to talk about all the fun stuff. Plus almost done with my transformers project, just not in time for the movie premiere.

So I came across this video that debuted recently for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Insane, at least in my opinion. I know the guys on IGN didn’t like it all that much, I think they called it boring. But for a motion graphics person like myself, it’s eye candy overload. It reminds me of Daredevil a little bit too, but more edgy.

So I figured I’d put my other personal project on hold and do an homage to this commercial with Transformers as the theme, especially with Transformers the movie 2 right around the corner.

I’ll update this post as more goes on. I think I’ll pull a little Stan Bush out of the wood works for the soundtrack. I figured while I was at in making this post I’d do a quick teaser for my homage. I used the Mutemath theme song version used in the movie.

Update:

Did another test integrating video footage from the movie into the project. Need a few more tests, but think I’ll have the settings and what not worked out soon enough so I can just cut together a cool looking piece.

Did a full render of one layer with particles on it masked by another with audio waveform. Pretty happy with it after twenty minutes of work and fifty minutes of render time. Not a bad test if I do say so myself. Oh there’s a little glitch half way through it, maybe I should have given it more power, another 3.1 jigawatz I think.

So I got the opportunity to work with the client Callaway again. This time they had a laundry list of things they wanted to do that has not really been done before with a web banner. Callaway wanted the ability to utilize the Adroit Interactive system to do several things to their web banners:

Change out any and all images

Change the content of the text fields along with their positions

Change the content of the button’s text field

Add or delete the amount of images shown in the slide show and change the corresponding text that goes with it

Now you might be asking why not just publish out all this stuff manually, well there are a bunch of geeks located in Boston who have this great software that makes updating your web banners easy without having to re-publish the FLA. And it tracks the status of that banners every move, some really detailed analytics even more so than Google. The advantage of that software allows you to test different content within that banner against the others so you can see which add atracts your audience better.

Done, with a flick of the wrist and the click of the mouse I did just that, plus more. I gave them the ability to also set a number that allowed for an auto scrolling feature in the beginning and set the amount of time between images scrolling. This project definitely took it’s toll on me and the Adroit Interactive team whom I had to work with to get their component to handle this fun project.

Update: Client has contracted me to do a video to go along with this project to be shown on the site and in churches.

I was approached by Val Pina and Rich Perron (commissioners of the Rhode Island Christian Basketball Association) to help them in re-branding and rebuilding their web presence. Previously, they had a simple web template and a logo based purely in text that represented RICBA in it’s inaugural year.

Several discussions were had, highlighting goals for the brand and website and also highlighting areas where RICBA failed. They wanted the revised RICBA brand to be the biggest known organized christian basketball league within five years. Moreover, they wanted the domain to be a portal where all information regarding the league could be obtained and where members and non-members alike would come to converse and share media and thoughts.

Having been given the green light to start from scratch, I attacked the re-branding process of the website from three points of view; technology, design, and usability ergonomics.

Technology:

Content management was a big issue. With their previous site, they had no control over the content or the domain name itself. This was solved by utilizing the power of Adobe Contribute along with Dreamweaver. Contribute allowed both Rich and Val to edit the site without having to worry about code at all or changing anything of importance that might change how the site looked or behaved.

The site although using PHP as it’s server language takes heavy advantage of CSS and XHTML techniques. These techniques allow for cross browser compatibility and search engine optimization of their site.

Design:

The design and look of RICBA.net went through several stages, roughly four in all to get it to the look it currently has now. As the client put it, “Anything is better than what we had before…” That may have been the case with the first design, but obviously we wanted to make sure that any look we finalized on was something they would be happy with five years from now.

Several things were taken into consideration such as button states, icons, favicons, backgrounds to pieces and backgrounds overall.

Usability:

Ideally, I did not want users to have to dig deep into the site to find information they wanted right away. A lot of times, users have to go two to three pages deep to find the information needed. On the front of the RICBA.net website, you’ll notice several important features being shown and by order of importance.

First a giant header showcasing the logo and verse of the day.

Then the mission statement, contact information, and a feed from the RICBA forum showcasing the conversations of the commissioners. Ideally with this feed it was to be a daily bread of knowledge and wisdom.

Below all that a tabbed frame of content showcasing a media gallery, RICBA season schedule, updates from the RICBA forum, downloads from and for the league, and a team standings and statistics.

The clients were extremely excited with the way content was laid out and how all the information was presented. Moreover, they were happy with the way their audience was reacting to seeing everything.

At the end of the day both of the clients were extremely happy with their site and the leaps and bounds that were achieved. In less than one month the site has already had significant web traffic. Plus a couple visits from Europe and India. This was fun project that definately pushed me to my limits as a developer and designer.

So I’ve been a fan of all these fan made videos (otherwise known as AMVs or FMVs for short) for anime and video games and a fan of anime itself for a long time. I figured its time for me to contribute my two cents to this wonderful world of homages. So I’m going to make my own based on the anime Naruto, but one that took more time than just simple jump cuts and dissolves. So far I’ve gotten some good ideas on paper on what I want to do to tell the story and have some great music which I thank TelevisionTunes.com for. There’s a lot of techniques I’ve always wanted to try and couldn’t until this personal project, so it kind of gives me an excuse to try them out. I’ve been around the block a few times and I think this is a great example of AMV. It’s Gundam Wing being shown to Kryptonite. It tells the whole story in course of the song and matches the words to a point or at least the theme.

Oh and I’m doing my FMV with Shippuden footage just because of the availability of it. I know a lot of people out there have opinions on the series and what not, curious to hear what you think if I should just stick to Naruto.

For those interested in Naruto Shippuden, Viz is showing all the episodes online for a limited time. Check it out while you can.

Well I figured it was about time so I’ve started to do my own site comprised of case studies, images of works past, current projects I’m working on, and any new techniques that I’ve found helpful in my process to create better work.

If you need to see a list of client work, then head on over to the Client List page to see everything I’ve ever done or at least everyone I’ve ever worked with. I’ll be adding in tons of other info as time goes on like my resume and skill set. In the mean time enjoy, comment on stuff, let me know what you think as time goes on.

Right now I’m currently busy working on projects for Mutual of Omaha, the artist known as Proclaim, and Dakota Homestead.

Also I am working full time for this rag tag group of guys located in Boston by the name of The Boston Group. A great design firm, a talented group of people, doing the work of larger design firms with only a handful of people, and I get to be one of them. I got to do an interactive holiday card for them that was featured on their home page.

I am available for freelance work obvsiouly so take a look at my work, see whom I’ve done work for, and contact me.

Simple programming project turning AS3 built advertisement banners and making them AS2. Why go backwards you say when the trend is to go forward with better techniques and code? The client found that their AS3 banners which utilized Click Tags weren’t working. It seems that they were running their advertising banners off a particular brand of server OS that doesn’t like the combination of Click Tag and AS3.

This was fun project trying to emulate the same effects and animations that they had already come up with. The client was happy with the results and of course that’s always a plus.
